How To Use Google Hangouts

Google+ Hangouts is really easy to use.  All you need to get started is:

A computer, tablet or phone with a front-facing camera. NOTE: If you don’t have access to a front-facing camera (an older phone or Kindle, for example) do not worry;  you can still join the call as audio only, we just won’t be able to see you.

Headphones or earbuds are recommended, but not necessary.

You will absolutely need a Google+ account, which is really easy to set up.  If you already have a “gmail.com” email address, you already have a Google+ account and will be able to access the call by clicking on the link in the email that I sent you at registration.  HOLD ON TO THIS EMAIL as it is your direct link to the on air call and the archived recording.

If you don’t currently have a “gmail.com” email, here’s how to set up your account:

In your browser of choice, type in: https://plus.google.com.  This will take you to the page to create your account.  Choose your username (which will also be your gmail.com email address).  (You can link this with your primary email, later, there are many youtube videos on that.  I won’t go in to it here.  For our purposes it is just a placeholder.  I never use mine except to access  Hangouts.)

Once you’ve entered your username, click on “Create Account” at the bottom.

This will take you to your profile page so that you can fill it out.  It is pretty self-explanatory.  Including your phone is crucial for notifications and if you want the option to use hangouts from your phone.  The email they are asking you for at the bottom is your default email (that is not a gmail email) in case you forget your username or password, they can send that info to your regular email.

Save the information and you’re all set.  You might want to browse the site to get a feel for it.  After you respond to the invite, the class will show on your “event” page (under Events on the sidebar).

You can add people to your circles and check out the other features.  They offer a walk-through for you to click on also.

Once you have your account set up, contact Cyhndi at:  cynthiamora106@yahoo.com with your gmail address so she can send you the invite with the link to the call and you’re all set.  Respond ‘yes’ to the invite and when class time arrives Hangouts will send you a reminder.  Click on the link in the reminder and you’ll be connected to the class.  Easy peasy!!

Note:  The Nontoxic Cleaning and Nontoxic Beauty classes will be on air (for private viewing only) and recorded directly to youtube.com so that you can refer back to them after the class.  The links are private and can only be viewed by those who attended the class.

You can request a short meeting with either Cyhndi or Gina to test your Hangout connection before your first class!  Please give us as much notice as possible to schedule a ‘test call’, at least a couple days before the class so we’re not scrambling at the last minute. (Cyhndi is not a morning person, lol.)
